The day I was followed home and nearly attacked by a man and the KA boys saved me.
I was employed at the local abbators working in the offal room, turning trippe and pumping blood out of hearts. On the odd occasion I would also work on kill floor scraping fat from the rib cages, plugging butt holes, and also working in the packing room, packing the animals body parts in a particular fashion so they fit perfectly into the packing box.
Very early starts, labour intensive job that’s for sure. I made plenty of friends there and always had fun migglinly when it was break time, planning who was catching up with who after work and where.
I’d sometimes walk home from work as we finished early some afternoons, and I couldn’t find a lift home. On this particular day, I was waking home, and a small blue car pulled along side of me when I was on my way home and asked me if I would like a lift and to go out for dinner.
I politely declined, but he kept following, driving alongside me in his car and asking me the same thing. I suggest instead we meet at the pub as I knew my friends would be there and they could save me from him and due to his nationality it was against his religion to enter pubs.
I didn’t want to walk home but I realised Rebecca would be home and she could get rid of him and Ben and Don would also be home soon too so I slowly headed towards my home while getting more frustrated with this fuck wit that was now becoming a nuisance to me.
I fetched my keys out of my bag and headed for the backyard so I could see immediately if anyone was home. Reaching for my keys, I started yelling out to my housemate. The stalker guy and the vehicle had come to a stop across the road from my house as I was trying to unlock the lock yelling for a housemate, but it seemed no one was home.
I quickly get inside and lock the door but not long after I hear him park the car out by the front door he is walking towards the front and knocks asking me to let him in, but I tell him to go away.
He then has the nerve to go around to the back door and bang on that but with even more force this time. I raced around the house to see if anything was unlocked or ajar. I noticed Ben’s double doors are open, so I quickly grab the cot and hook it under the door handle just in time.
This madman is going from the back door to the front door and side door. His knocks and jiggles at the door are becoming more fierce and loud. I can’t think so I hide myself in the centre of the house where he can’t see me and in a panick I call my mate Scott on the phone, he answers straight away and I whisper down the phone whats happening and he says he’ll get to me as fast as he can.
He arrives on a bicycle super fast and then straight away asks the stalker “What are you doing? You need to leave!” But the stalker states,” I’m here to take her out. You can go away. ” Scott says, “Chantal doesn’t know you, so leave her alone and get in your car and go. ” He still refuses, Scott managed to call some other boys who are also coming to help.
A ute rocks up with boys all on the back, the stalker sees this and hops straight in his car but he is still refusing to leave so the boys start rocking his car side to side and getting very verbal with him. They tell him never to come back, and we get all his car details and physical features.
Im a bloody mess, Scott is with me conforting me, we have a walk around the house as I describe the guys movements from the front door to the back door and side door. We go to Ben’s room and noticed the guy had managed to pop the door open and was succefully gaining access but the guys distracted him when they arrived in the ute, just in the nick of time to save me from him.
The guys wait with me until Rebecca gets home, so someone is with me. She gets home and we decide to go to the pub just so we aren’t home alone and so we are in a public place and know that the guy won’t go into any pub. Rebecca and I are sitting at the bar, and I’m letting her know all the details that unfolded. I’m stumbling on my words as I tell her.
We order a drink to calm the nerves and Rebecca calls Ben and Don to let them know where we are and what happened. I go to order another drink and two guys at the bar start talking to me saying they are undercover cops and that I defently need to report what happened to the police so they have the information on file just in case he decides to try me again.
I end up filing a statement with the police and the boys are asked to provide all the information they can. The police ask why I didn’t call them first and I said it wasn’t the first thing that came to mind, I had Nathans number in my mind and I dailed it on the phone before I could think.
They also said the stalker would have been watching me for days and following my life to find a time when I would have been alone.
From memory, several other women came forward about being followed in their cars to their homes.
The man is finally identified, and a court date has been set. I go to court, nervous to see him again and Scott is with me providing details of all the assistance he provided and we were successful in getting a 22-yearrestraining order, the stalker was pretty much run out of town due to the town being so close-knit and him making several attempts to hurt or assault multiple women.
Knowing he was out of town was a huge relief, but it took me ages to recover from the event, and I have never quite been the same. Now I walk on the road facing the traffic so it’s less likely someone can stop by me and if they do I can clearly see them, whenever I go out I have a check in system and report to a certain person that I got home save, I walk with an earbud in my ear so it looks like I’m listening to something but it’s so im not spoken to.
I also had my friends teach me self-defense moves and did a mini self-defense course so I know how to get away and attack to run. If there is a car parked on the side of the road, I always pass it on the other side of the street just in case someone is hiding in there ready to grab you and take off.
I tend not to smile at strangers as much as I used to, and I certainly don’t tell strangers my name. I have learnt to trust the police more and not to be afraid of them as they are there to serve and protect, although I do still believe friends will respond quicker and would do that first, it’s instinct.
