Kalamunda (1979-1984) – River of Memories:

A Tale of Spirits and Secrets

6th of July 1979 born and bred in WA I am the eldest child with two younger sisters they are 5 years and 7 years my junior. We were all born in WA. We were all born in the same hospital, in the same ward, with the same doctor, and that was the maternity ward at the Kalamunda Hospital.

My mum tells me the story of the night I was born, dad was too busy celebrating my upcoming birth at the local pub, that he almost missed me being born. He was kind enough to bring all of his drunken friends along to the hospital to witness my birth. Let me tell you, my mother was not impressed at all.

My father was excited, which usually meant drinking to celebrate. Like i mentioned earlier, he was at the local pub, and he was telling me his story many years later. Apparently there was a distraction in the public area which left the bar unattended so dad decided to steal a lot of the full spirit bottles from behind the bar and hide them outside, he got away with this until he rolled his car a VW into the river and all the bottles from the pub floated out into the river.
